I have just recently joined the CANON Photo marathon 2011 which was ended yesterday at Limketkai, Cagayan de Oro City. Canon photo marathon has started six years ago and it was just this year that they have it in regional. In Mindanao leg, they choose Cagayan de Oro since a lot of photographers/hobbyist have materialize in the city of Golden Friendship. Students from different schools, professionals from different companies have joined the said event. The goal for this is to gather canon users all over Mindanao.
In the event, the 3 theme was announced:
Theme 1: The City of this Golden Friendship inherent and traditional traits, camaraderie and hospitality. The beauty of this Golden glimpse
Theme 2: The Golden blessings that glow and behold to this city of the river gold like the confessions of his Love and Passion, you will deeply cross this rare Kagay-anon.
Theme 3: A city considered as the melting pot in Mindanao where modern lifestyle and booming economy arise. With the goal of nature preservation for future generation. They put eco-tourism as the core of it’s tourist attraction.
It depends on you on how you will interpret the said themes. But the catch here it should be candid and comes from the heart not directed. The registration is free and with free jersey shirt and cap along with free lunch, snacks and dinner.
What is Canon PhotoMarathon?
The Canon PhotoMarathon is a 1-day on-the-spot photo contest that lets you actually go out and shoot new images within the specified location or area. You’ll get the chance to compete against other amateur/professional photographers & hobbyist under strict contest deadlines. Just submit the images you’ve captured subject to judges’ evaluation. Your thematic creative instincts, as well as your ability to work under tight timeline pressures will be thoroughly tested in this exciting and unique competition.

Mindanao: Aug. 27, 2011: The Atrium Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City
Visayas: Sept. 3, 2011: Tagbilaran City, Bohol
North Luzon: Sept. 10, 2011: CAP Building, Plaza Burgos, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
South Luzon: Sept. 17, 2011: La Piazza Hotel & Convention Center, Tahao Road, Legazpi City, Bicol
Metro Manila: to be announced.Entry Rules:
- Please ensure that you are in good health when joining this competition. The organizers discourage pregnant women, as well as those suffering from chronic illness, high blood pressure or heart-related diseases from taking part.
- Two categories for entrants:
- Point and Shoot (IXUS and POWERSHOT)
- DSLR (EOS DIGITAL)
- Participants can only join in one category, either Point and Shoot or DSLR.
- Participants are not allowed to change the category they chose in between themes.
- Participants can use any Canon digital cameras to take photographs (depending on the category). During the Canon PhotoMarathon you will be given various photographic themes. After each theme you will be asked to submit your best image for uploading
