Major Cities in the world have, in one form or another, a grand parade to celebrate and honor these cities heritage.  The Golden Float Parade follows in the tradition of Cagayan de Oro Civic-Military Parade.  This parade showcases the myriad characters of our city’s institutions, organizations, interest groups, industries, police and branches of the military – all in commemoration of their collective contribution to the socio-cultural-economic-religious development of Cagayan de Oro.  What more opportune time to feature this, than the Fiesta of Cagayan de Oro’s patron, Saint Augustine.

The Golden Float Parade Competition features different float entries from participating Companies, Government, Non-Government and Private Organizations, Schools, and Agencies. This will be held in the morning of August 27, 2011 along the main city streets.  Each float depicts a themed design or drama recounting Cagayan de Oro’s growth and development, history, people or cultural or event.

This year’s Golden Float Parade will primarily follow last year’s format.  It will be a Civic-Military Parade with the Golden Float Parade Competition as the main feature.  The route shall also begin at the Rodelsa Circle, passes through Velez St. and the National Highway, and end at the main road of the Limketkai Center.  Participating bands shall be limited to 12 and the competing floats shall be towards the tail end of the parade.

HALAD SA LAMBAGUHAN

Date: August 19-28, 2011

Time: every 4:00 PM

Venue: Rodelsa Circle, Paseo Del Rio

The Halad sa Lambagohan goes beyond the fiesta celebration in each of
our homes. Lambagohan is the original name of Cagayan de Oro,
referring to the lush lambago trees thriving in our riverbanks; they
signify our community’s stake of identity, of pride of place, of
community life. Our Halad to the Lambagohan is therefore an offering
of thanksgiving for the nurturing care the riverine spirits have
afforded to our community. And so we offer a harvest of the
expressions of the spirit and soul of Kagay-anons in our journey
towards excellence. We offer all our hopes and dreams and good wishes.
We offer our poetry, our songs, our dances, our artistic yearnings for
a better world for each and everyone of us. We offer our art and soul,
our heart and minds, our wondrous imaginings.

This harvest of voice and vision is what Halad sa Lambagohan is about:
a week-long harvest of the Kagay-anons’ preeminence in art and culture
on the world stage. Organized by Liceo de Cagayan University and the
Zealep Group of Companies, in particular the Paseo del Rio de Cagayan,
Inc., the Halad sa Lambagohan is open to the public free of charge on
August 22 to 28, 2011 at the Rodelsa Circle, the only public park in
the city that has become the happening place for art and culture
aficionados.
